Description of the Study Program

The study of Managerial Mathematics in the second level provides students with a rich education in more advanced parts of mathematics and mathematical statistics, as well as more advanced parts in management and finance. The graduate masters the methods of creating mathematical models in a wide range of their use with a special focus on models in management and finance. He is experienced in the analysis of these models at the level of differential and difference equations and mathematical statistics. The graduate knows modern statistical software as a programmer and can use it to solve the tasks of managerial, financial and business practice. He has an overview of the possibilities of mathematical statistics at various levels of business management in general and has special experience in the field of insurance and banking. The subjects from the block under the auspices of the Faculty of Management of Charles University guarantee that the graduate is acquainted with the principles of management of specialized departments as well as companies as a whole. He knows the principles of micromanagement as well as strategic management. He knows the theoretical basis of marketing and is also familiar with the practical design and evaluation of marketing strategies.

What to Expect

The study program is defined by the study plan, which is divided into compulsory, compulsory optional and optional subjects.

The profile subjects of the study plan are compulsory or compulsory optional subjects, and after completing them, the student will acquire knowledge and skills that are essential for completing the study program. We offer subjects from two main blocks, namely Mathematics and Statistics, and from the Management and Finance block. The basic lectures are jointly compulsory, but there is ample room for choosing compulsory optional and optional subjects according to the student's interest. Subjects taught by colleagues from practice have a non-negligible representation, as well as the possibility for the student to complete the practice itself (student work or completion of professional training on entrepreneurship) as a subject of the study plan under the given conditions.

Master’s Thesis

Through the diploma thesis, the student must demonstrate the ability to independently acquire theoretical and practical knowledge based on the current state of science and to creatively apply, use and develop it. The final thesis will be prepared by the student under the guidance of the thesis supervisor. The thesis supervisor will prepare a written assessment of the final thesis and propose its evaluation The final thesis is evaluated by one opponent. The opponent prepares a written assessment of the final thesis and proposes its evaluation. The student has the opportunity to participate in the topic of his diploma thesis by addressing a specific student with his own idea.

Graduates' Career Opportunities

The study of Managerial Mathematics does not prepare graduates for the performance of regulated professions. However, the focus of the study primarily leads to the fact that our graduate is ready to apply in a wide range of managerial positions after graduation, especially those that require the ability of accurate logical reasoning and knowledge of quantitative methods of applied mathematics and statistics in business practice. The natural employers of our graduates are medium-sized and larger companies that need the use of analytical methods of management and marketing, banks and insurance companies with their positions as risk specialists for their effective management.
