EDMOND

The European viDeo Meteor Observation Network (EDMONd) has been established in 2011-2012 (Kornoš et al., 2013). The network started as a spontaneous collaboration between observers in Europe and its first part was a network initiated by Jakub Koukal and Roman Piffl (CEMeNt). The first version of The European viDeo MeteOr Network Database (EDMOND), containing data from the years of 2009 to mid-2012, was presented at the IMC conference in La Palma, Spain in 2012 ( Kornoš et al., 2013). The data from EDMONd and IMO VMN have been merged in 2012 (Kornoš et al., 2014a).

The EDMONd Network currently consists of observers from the following national and international networks (in alphabetical order):

BOAM (Base des Observateurs Amateurs de Meteores, France)

BosNet (Bosnia)

CEMeNt (Central European Meteor Network, cross-border network of Czech and Slovak amateur observers)
meteornews.org

CMN (Croatian Meteor Network or HrvatskaMeteorskaMreza, Croatia)

FMA (Fachgruppe Meteorastronomie, Switzerland)

HMN (HungarianMeteor Network or Magyar Hullocsillagok Egyesulet, Hungary)

IMO VMN (IMO Video Meteor Network)

MeteorsUA (Ukraine)

IMTN (Italian amateur observers in Italian Meteor and TLE Network, Italy)

NEMETODE (Network for Meteor Triangulation and Orbit Determination, United Kingdom)

PFN (Polish Fireball Network or Pracownia Komet i Meteorow, PkiM, Poland)

Stjerneskud (Danish all-sky fireball cameras network, Denmark)

SVMN (Slovak Video Meteor Network, Slovakia)

UKMON (UK Meteor Observation Network, United Kingdom)

The EDMOND database is created according to Kornoš et al. (2014a,b):

1.    The meteor orbits are computed by using UFOOrbit software (SonotaCo, 2009) with basic parameter settings Qo and dt = 5 sec (which means that all combinations of single-station meteors within 5 second intervals are computed), and with additional settings: beginning and terminal heights have to be H1,2 є (15; 200) km, the empirically derived quality parameter QA > 0.3, and the largest difference in velocity among considered stations in the orbit computation is dV < 7 km/s.

2.    To reject the less accurate orbits and false orbits, another filter of parameters is applied: the meteor angular length has to be Qo > 1 deg, the duration of the meteor dur > 0.1 sec, the convergence angle Qc > 10 deg, the difference between the two poles of ground trajectory dGP < 0.5 deg, and the difference in velocity between unified velocity and velocity from one of the stations dv12% < 7.07%. The parameters are explained in the UFOOrbit manual (see SonotaCo web page).

The database itself is understood to be multi-platform, therefore combines outputs from systems with different parameters as well as from systems with different recording and evaluation methodology (UFO Capture, MetRec, CMN). The files to download are in two file formats: *.csv and *.dat. The .dat format does not contain all items parameters.

Three data sets are available:

EDMOND 5 v.04 – data from EDMONd network and IMO VMN world data (United States, Australia, Canary Islands - Spain). The data set contains 317,380 meteor orbits and atmospheric parameters from 2001-2016. We added (not completed yet) data from 2014-2016 to the previous version of the database EDMOND 5 v.03.

EU+world.zip  {warning:large file (>100MB)}

NFC – Narrow Field Camera introduced and operated by CEMeNt in 2014 (http://meteornews.org/edmond/). The data set contains 427 meteor orbits and atmospheric parameters from 2015-2016.

In January 2014, the BRAzilian MeteOr Network (BRAMON) has been established. The network is located in the southern hemisphere and is independent of EDMOND database, its task is to map meteor activity in the southern hemisphere. The data set contains 4877 meteor orbits and atmospheric parameters.
