Mgr. Terézia Eckertová:
Radon in waters and methods of its measurement

Abstract:
Radioactive radon-222 as a part of the uranium series is contained in all environmental compartments. Water flowing through rock environment is enriched by radon from the surrounding. Therefore, water from springs can contain various concentrations of radon, even very high. The values of radon activity concentration in waters are controlled mainly due to compliance with radiohygienic limits. However, radon monitoring in waters is applied, for example, in geology or hydrogeology, where radon is used as a tracer of groundwater movement or a precursor of geodynamic activities. In seminar, there will be presented results of mapping of 222Rn in groundwater of mountains of Western Carpathians together with results of monitoring variations in selected springs in this area. Also, there will be shown results of the development of apparatuses for continual monitoring of 222Rn in waters.
