Dr. Amina Khatun  (Institute of Physics Bhubaneswar, India): Searching for New Physics using multi-GeV Atmospheric Neutrinos

Abstract:
The observation of neutrino oscillation in various neutrino oscillation experiments confirms that neutrinos mix with each other and they have non-zero mass. However, in the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics, neutrinos are mass-less. Thus, the discovery of non-zero mass of neutrino is an exclusive evidence of physics beyond the SM and motivates to search for the new physics in the neutrino oscillation experiments. In this talk, I will discuss the scope of exploring the signal which can be the consequence of the physics beyond the SM at atmospheric neutrino oscillation experiments.

One of these issues is the indirect search of the mysterious dark matter whose particle nature is completely unknown yet. I will also discuss whether the atmospheric neutrino oscillation experiment can reveal the non-standard interactions (NSI) of neutrino with matter fermions. Our study reveals that atmospheric neutrino oscillation experiments play an important role in constraining new physics by detecting the neutrinos from all directions.
