S4716 - the star with the shortest orbital period around the supermassive black hole
Abstract:
I will introduce the environment of the Galactic center and how we can observe its different components, including stars, dust, gas of different phases, and the supermassive black hole of 4 million Solar masses itself. Then I will focus on our identification of the star called S4716, which has currently the shortest orbital period of only 4 years around the supermassive black hole. Subsequently, I will discuss the possible origin of these S stars and relevant dynamical processes in the vicinity of the supermassive black hole.
