Instability of the Anti-de Sitter spacetime

Abstract:
The AdS instability conjecture is one of the most important open problems in mathematical general relativity. It states that arbitrarily small perturbations of the anti-de Sitter spacetime may lead to the formation of a black hole. This talk aims to give a short introduction to this topic. I will explain the significance of this conjecture, provide numerical and heuristic arguments supporting it, and discuss some of the current research directions.
