From Post-hoc to Intrinsic: Faithful, Domain-Grounded Explanations for Malware Detection
Abstract:
Malware detection can remain predictively competitive while producing explanations that are faithful, structurally informative, and grounded in security concepts. Moving from post-hoc attribution through interpretable logic networks and regional surrogate trees to relational knowledge-graph models, the work culminates in QuinEx, a knowledge-graph embedding whose score decomposes exactly into attributable channels and whose concept rules align with MITRE ATT&CK tactics, with competitive detection and higher tactic coherence than LIME, SHAP, and decision-tree explanations.
