In two-hour limit the participants attempt to solve as many as possible interesting problems, which are not conventional school maths problems but require amount of creativity, skill, novel approach and other abilities supporting analytical reasoning.

Within 22 years of its existence, the Náboj competition has expanded from Bratislava FMPI into other 9 European countries. This year almost 5,000 highschoolers will take part 950 of whom are in Bratislava.

The first Náboj contest took place in 1998. In 2005 it spread abroad to Prague and has been extended many times since then. Apart from Bratislava, this contest will be held also in Košice, Prague, Opava, Budapest, Veszprém, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Bialystok, Linz, Passau, Zürich, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Konstanca and Novosibirsk.

The mathematical Náboj contest has a physics alternative held in November, and an elementary school version Náboj Junior. These three competitions together make up the “Náboj” contest which has been continuously extended beyond the FMPI facilities into other European countries.
