Neutrino Telescope in Lake Baikal: Recent Status and Future Prospects

Abstract:
A report on the recent progress in the construction of the Baikal Gigaton Volume Detector, which is data taking already, will be presented. The effective volume of the Baikal-GVD neutrino telescope for neutrino initiated cascades of relativistic particles with energy above 100 TeV has been increased up to ~0.5 km3. This presentation reviews the design and the basic characteristics of the largest operating neutrino telescope in the Northern Hemisphere. Some preliminary results of the partially completed detector will be presented.
