Richard Kollár:
Herd Immunity and Modes of Epidemic Spreading in Late Epidemic Stages
Abstract:
We review the concept of herd immunity in various types of epidemic spreading models. Particularly, we will discuss the structural failure of the herd immunity in models of spreading on contact networks resembling the real networks. We employ the configuration model to understand the important features of epidemic spreading in late epidemic stages. Overall, we show how the predictions from the models of spreading on disintegrating networks differ from the traditionally used compartment models in epidemiology. The material of the talk is based both on theory of dynamical systems and random graph theory.
