Mathematical modelling of transport phenomena in alloy solidification
Abstract:
Mathematical modelling of mass, heat and momentum transport occurring during solidification of alloys is reviewed. The continuum conservation equations are introduced via a volume averaging approach and commonly made reductions are examined. Basic thermodynamic constraints for the phase equilibria in alloy solidification are presented. Recent advances in the understanding of convective and diffusive transport phenomena received from stability analyses and numerical computations are discussed.
