Radiocarbon dating of St. George's Rotunda in Nitrianska Blatnica and Church of St. Margaret of Antioch in Kopčany
Abstract:
Past archeological research showed that St. George’s Rotunda in Nitrianska Blatnica and Church of St. Margaret of Antioch in Kopčany could have their origin in 9th or 10th century AD and could therefore belong to the oldest still standing churches in Slovakia. An international consortium of radiocarbon laboratories was established to date the origin of these two buildings. Samples of wood, charcoal, mortar and plaster were analyzed. Results of radiocarbon dating of these two buildings will be presented.
