Martin Zeman (University of California, Irvine):
An Invitation to Inner Model Theory
Abstract:
This talk gives an overview of the development of the theory of inner models of set theory in the context of small and "medium size" large cardinals and highlights some interactions of the theory with mainstream mathematical areas, mainly analysis. The talk is intended for a broader mathematical audience. I will present some results, older and also more recent, which demonstrate that definable inner models are able to capture significant amount of the information of the actual set-theoretic universe, and and that such models can be used to extract large cardinals from mathematical statements which come not only from set theory, but also from mainstream mathematics.
