Department of Astronomy, Physics of the Earth, and Meteorology
Department of Astronomy, Physics of the Earth, and Meteorology (DAPEM) offers Joint Master Study Program of Comenius University in Bratislava and University of Vienna Physics of the Earth (in English). DAPEM also offers Master study programs Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Environmental Physics, Renewable Energy Sources, Meteorology and Climatology. Scientists and teachers of DAPEM participate in Bachelor study programs Physics, Renewable Energy Sources and Environmental Physics. DAPEM offers PhD study programs Geophysics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, and Meteorology and Climatology.
Research in DAPEM:
- Astronomy and Astrophysics: interplanetary matter, dynamics of small Solar system bodies (comets, asteroids, meteoroids, meteorites), orbital evolution of dust particles, galactic astronomy and astrophysics.
- Physics of the Earth: physics of earthquake ground motion and seismic wave propagation, numerical modelling of earthquake ground motion and seismic wave propagation, seismic signals, seismic hazard, magnetohydrodynamics, Schumann resonances.
- Meteorology and Climatology: meteorological data acquisition and analysis, radiation and energy balance of the Earth‘s surface, numerical modelling of atmospheric dynamics, weather forecasts methods, climatology of Slovak regions, climate variability and climate change scenarios.
- Environmental Physics: technologies for pollutant removal, biomedical applications of plasma and electrical discharges, combustion and pyrolysis as alternative energy sources, physical and chemical waste treatment technologies, waste water and exhaust gas treatment.
Astronomical and geophysical observations are performed at the Astronomical and geophysical observatory (AGO) in Modra-Piesok near Bratislava.
