Bold Rabbit successful at the robotics competition in Germany
Roboticists from FMPhI won the 3rd - 5th place in the Robotour competition in Deggendorf, Germany, which took place on September 16. – 18., 2016. The team whose members were Jozef Dúc, Michal Moravčík, Marek Šuppa, Ondrej Jariabka and the robot Bold Rabbit was led by Paľo Petrovič from the Department of Applied Informatics.
Robotour – outdoor delivery contest is a robot competition in the delivering cargo in external environments. The competition usually takes place in a park with diverse surfaces and widths of pathways, pools, flowerbeds, hedges and fences, benches, and visitors. To develop an autonomous system capable of reliable motion in such environments is a worthy challenge for the students of our faculty.
The team from the Department of Applied Informatics with their Bold Rabbit robot has participated in this challenge for several years. Master student Jozef Dúc, whose thesis project is on processing of laser-sensor information, participated at the Robotour contest together with FMPhI graduate Michal Moravčík, whose thesis project was on road recognition in an image by using neural networks. The two remaining team members Marek Šuppa and Ondrej Jariabka are master students of computer science. Marek, who has a previous experience from several international robotics events, said that “this finally looked like a robotics team.” This year´s 3rd -5th position among 14 competing teams from Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Czech republic, and Slovakia is another notable achievement , next to the 1st place at the Robotour 2014 in Plzeň and the 3rd place at the Robotour 2015 in Písek.
