Postdoctoral Position in the group of Computational Materials Science
The scientific aim of the research is the study of two broad families of new materials, Chalcogenides and Oxides, with focus on high-pressure properties. Application Deadline: 23.6.2025
A postdoctoral position in the group of Computational Materials Science (https://dep.fmph.uniba.sk/computational-materials-science/) at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Comenius University in Bratislava is open starting in October 2025.
The scientific aim of the research is the study of two broad families of new materials, Chalcogenides and Oxides, with focus on high-pressure properties. The materials will be studied by state-of-the-art computational methods in order to identify unexplored high-pressure phases, phase transitions, or emergent phenomena upon compression. The postdoc will be actively involved in application of crystal structure prediction algorithms to interesting systems and analysis of the properies of the resulting crystalline phases. Focus will be also on the study of mechanisms of the pressure-induced structural transitions by advanced methods such as metadynamics.
We are offering a postdoctoral position starting from October 1st, 2025. The contract length is 1 year with the possibility of extension up to 3 years.
Expectations from the candidate:
- background in Condensed Matter Physics, familiarity with high-pressure phenomena is welcome
- good skills and experience with ab initio computational methods,
- good level of English language,
- good experience with scientific writing,
- up to 3 years from the PhD defense,
- age under 35 years
- ability to efficiently cooperate with other research team members.
We offer:
- position in excellent research group at the best Slovak university
- possibility to cooperate on other research projects on national and EU level
- competitive salary
- health insurance
- possibility of affordable university accommodation
- availability of extra-work sport activities within the university
- modern European city to live in.
Applications from candidates with PhD in physics are welcome.
To apply, please send
– short motivation letter describing your previous experience with application of computational approaches in condensed matter physics including the topic of your PhD thesis and list of your publications (peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals) and
– CV
From the submitted applications we will select prospective candidates for an online meeting and selection will be done based on the excellence.
The deadline for application submission is June 23rd, 2025.
