Offer Description

Although they belong to the group of the "simplest" molecules, small hydrogen compounds such as ammonia, methane or water play an important role in everyday physical and chemical processes on Earth and in space. In recent years, two main areas have added to this topic, motivating new research on these molecules. The first area is the discovery of exoplanets and the ability to study the composition of their atmospheres. The second, currently important area, is research into the synthesis of ammonia directly from water and nitrogen without the use of fossil fuels (production of so-called green ammonia).
To correctly analyze low-resolution absorption signals from these exoplanets or from diagnostic probes monitoring the physicochemical processes relevant to the formation of green ammonia, highly accurate spectroscopic data of interacting particles (molecules or atoms) are required. These mainly include data on the position, intensity, collision parameters of the spectral lines of the molecules present and the identification of the interacting levels.
For example, even though it has been more than a century since the first observation of NH3 spectra, they are still not well understood and described. Our project will focus on obtaining accurate reference data for small hydrogen compounds such as ammonia. This is a very topical issue also from the point of view of our team, since from this year we will directly collaborate on the creation of the HITRAN database.

We are offering a postdoc position starting from October 1st, 2025. The contract length is 1 year with possibility of extension up to 3 years.

To apply, please send

- short motivation letter/e-mail (max. 1 page) describing your previous experience with laboratory research including the topic of your PhD thesis and list of your publications (peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals and conference abstracts/contributions),

- CV

  • at least one reference letter

in advance before the deadline to cermak@uniba.fmph.sk

We will select prospective candidates from the submitted applications for an online meeting.
