Postdoctoral Position at Department of Experimental Physics
The main objective of this postdoctoral project is the study of electron–molecule ionization reactions. Application Deadline: 16.6.2025
To understand the mechanisms of compound decomposition in plasma, it is essential to study the processes that are active within it. Due to the variety of processes occurring in discharges, it is challenging to investigate individual mechanisms directly in plasma. Electron-induced processes are among those present in discharges and play a significant role in plasma chemistry and decontamination.
The main objective of this postdoctoral project is the study of electron–molecule ionization reactions, which will be investigated using the crossed-beam method combined with mass spectrometry to analyze the charged products of electron-induced reactions, with CEMBIA – a crossed-beam electron–molecule instrument and with CLUSTER-ILN – an electron–cluster beam system. Additionally, electron-induced excitation processes and ion–molecule reactions may be studied as complementary experiments conducted within the same research group. All these results can provide valuable insights into the kinetics of various processes — including evaluations of relative cross sections, threshold energies, and the efficiency of individual reaction channels. Moreover, when combined with findings from the various research areas mentioned, technology optimization will contribute to the development of suitable plasma sources and devices with practical application potential.
The postdoctoral position will begin on October 1st, 2025, with a duration of one year and the possibility of extension for up to three years. We welcome candidates with skills and experience in operating experimental setups, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presenting at international conferences. Applicants are requested to send the following documents to peter.pappuniba.sk:
- A short motivation letter (max. 1 page) describing your previous laboratory research experience, including the topic of your PhD thesis.
- A CV including a list of publications (peer-reviewed journal articles and conference abstracts/contributions).
Based on the submitted applications, selected candidates will be invited for an online interview.
